A while back, I had my first ever “book signing” event. Nervous and feeling a little out of place – in walked the most lovely sight. My very first customer – a dear friend of mine, someone I have known for years. As soon as our eyes met, I Immediately felt comfort – my nerves calmed down and I knew it was going to be a good day.
See this particular friend is one who was a source of peace and comfort for me during one of my most difficult seasons in life – during my last pregnancy with my son, Parker (now 17). I’ll never forget a call I made to her (she was my doctors nurse, and we worked together) – I was terrified. I don’t remember how far along I was with Parker, but I started cramping and spotting. TERRIFIED, I called Angela! See, I had already lost a baby at full term and had also had several miscarriages. I remember her words to this day – “I know how this makes you worry, why don’t you come in”. Very calmly, she and my doctor spoke to me, performed an ultrasound and reassured me that my child was vibrant and alive!
Throughout our years of friendship, she has been a source of strength, kindness, love and most of all – complete and total acceptance. I think this is exactly how Jesus wants us to be as friends – one who loves you during ALL the seasons of life – the messy, the ugly, the beautiful, the scary and most of all when you are not around. These are the “sister” friends – those who are your biggest fan, your most trusted confidant, and one who will be by your side no matter what the situation. They are also the friends who will be honest with you and speak both truth and love into your hearts. A forever friend!
Sisters, let’s make a pact – to be an Angela today! Love you! Heather
John 15:12-13 (NIV) My command is this; Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
