I won’t lie, I’m going through a difficult time at the moment. There’s a certain situation I’m facing that looks so incredibly bleak. I can’t see a way forward, and I’ve been feeling quite depressed about it. I guess my main problem is that I want to control the outcome, and I can’t. It’s out of my hands entirely. I’ve lost sleep, cried many tears, wanted to throw in the towel – the truth is, I’ve not been handling it very well.
Yet, as always, God remains faithful, even in the midst of my mini-meltdown (and He’d still be faithful if it were a major one!). I’ve had to be intentional about reminding myself that this turn of events has not taken Him by surprise. He knows the end from the beginning, He knows the big picture, and as one of His children, He has my best interests at heart. He knit me together in my mother’s womb, He knows my name, He knows my every thought, He knows the number of hairs on my head, and if He takes care of the sparrows, then He will surely take care of me – and YOU – for we are His!
At church this weekend, the Lord spoke straight to my heart and situation through a prophetic word. He said, “Don’t give up the fight – walk by faith and not by sight!” Nobody else knew that I’d been thinking of quitting, that I felt weak and unable to carry on; nobody else knew that what I was seeing with my natural eyes was overwhelming me. But God did!
You see, God knows exactly what’s going on in our lives, and He’ll always speak directly to our situation (though, we have to make ourselves available to listen) – sometimes with a word of encouragement or edification, and sometimes with a word of warning or rebuke. Regardless of the type of word He brings, He speaks to us because we are His, and He loves us and wants the best for us – that’s the bottom line!
Sweet sister, if you’re also going through a tough time, join me in meditating on the scripture below. When I first got saved, a dear lady taught me to insert my name into scriptures to make them personal. Let’s do that together – let’s put our names in this scripture where it says ‘Jacob’ and ‘Israel’. This scripture is God’s promise to us.
But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.”
