Reflections on Our 5th (Yes, 5th!) Annual Night of Radiance

The weeks leading up to this year’s Night of Radiance were a whirlwind—marked by joy, sorrow, stress, and unexpected grief. On August 27th, my father-in-law passed away suddenly, and his funeral was held just two days before our event. And just the day before, the children’s choir scheduled to sing “This Little Light of Mine” had to cancel due to illness, we faced multiple last-minute attendee cancellations and even had a hiccup with the sponsor logo lighting on the day of the event.

Yet in moments like these, we’re reminded of our only true anchor: Jesus. We pressed into Him—into His timing, His comfort, His provision—and watched as grace and love poured in from those around us. Our event chair, Casidee Corcoran, showed incredible strength, perseverance and grace! She was and is a gift!

Letting the Light Shine

This year’s theme was “Let Your Light Shine,” and oh, how brightly it did. In the midst of darkness, God’s glory radiated. Our guest speaker shared stories that wrecked hearts—stories of pain, redemption, and unimaginable resilience. Tables of grown men wept. The audience sat captivated, not just by the words spoken, but by the Spirit moving.

We witnessed firsthand how God uses everything—trauma, abuse, neglect, poverty, and pain—to display His great glory. Grace was tangible. Hope was alive.

One Mama’s Story: A Light in the Darkness

We were blessed to hear from one of the precious mamas we serve. Her joy is contagious, her smile lights up any room, and her story is a testament to transformation. From heartache and sadness to a life filled with hope, this mama now walks in the truth that she is seen, heard, and deeply loved—most importantly, by Jesus.

My favorite line from her video? “You CAN be the greatest.” Yes, sweet girl. Yes, you can.

Our “Why”

You also got a deeper glimpse into mine and Heidi’s “why.” From the womb, our story began—our mama’s fierce defiance to choose life in the face of the unthinkable to now: twins with hearts set on loving and serving the “least of these”—the unborn and their mamas.

The vision God has given us is bigger than we ever imagined. Beyond the first SONshine Home, we dream of entire family neighborhoods—places where young mothers can plant roots, belong, and be loved. Communities where they can eventually own their own homes, take their children to the park, to school, to Sunday school and VBS. Lives once out of reach, now within grasp—because they met Jesus and found healing inside the walls of that big yellow house.

A Future Lit by Love

This is just the beginning. The beginning of radical love. Radical transformation. A new generation rewriting the story of their families. The light cannot be extinguished.

To God be the glory—forever.

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” —Matthew 5:16

“This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.”

Love you, Heather
