Have you ever heard the song, “Wind Beneath My Wings”? It’s about a quiet hero – one who is always behind the scenes, walking in the shadows of her friend’s glory. It was written for the movie, Beaches, back in the 80’s which details the bond between two childhood friends. I don’t remember much about the movie, but the song has always been one that reminds me of my sweetest earthly friend – my twin sister.
Heidi is exactly like the friend in this song – she loves without limits, gives when she has nothing left to give, is so, SO generous and ALWAYS seeks to find the good in people. Most people would never know the heartache she has survived nor the sadness life has brought her. All anyone ever sees in her is complete acceptance, love and a kindness that is not just seen, but truly felt. She coined a phrase that is the basis of Love and SONshine Ministries – “LOVE THEM TO THE KINGDOM”.
Throughout our years, Heidi and I have always said how blessed we are to have the “perfect friend” – one who knows every little detail of our lives and loves us anyway . Quite truthfully, I think having her in my life is much like the friendship we have in Jesus. It is through deep, authentic friendships that you can come to know Jesus more intimately and display His great love for one another. Looking to Jesus, he approached friendship with a humble, servant heart – much like Heidi does. He moved toward His friends and spoke truth and love, earnestly prayed for his friends and ultimately gave His life so that we could have eternal life.
The beauty in this is that ANYONE can have this true friendship with the Lord by placing your trust in Him as a personal savior, being born again and receiving new life (John 3:16, Romans 5:7-8, 2 Cor. 5:17). Sweet friend – is today your day? Do you want the “perfect friend”? If that is you, and you have never accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, simply pray this prayer or something similar:
Dear Lord Jesus, I believe that you died on the cross for my sins, and that God raised you from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite you to come into my heart and life. I accept you as my Lord and Savior, and put my trust in you. Amen
If anyone said this prayer today, please reach out – we will walk this beautiful journey with you, pray for you and guide you in your next steps. Love you all so!
