A message from Joshua Kroll, our cultural liaison
At Love and SONshine, we believe in restoring hope—and that starts with restoring families.
Many of the young women who come through our doors are teen mothers who have experienced homelessness, abuse, and deep generational trauma. Many are Native American. All are navigating life with incredible courage in the face of overwhelming hardship.
That’s why education programs like Fatherhood is Sacred, Motherhood is Sacred matter so much. This class isn’t just about parenting skills—it’s about healing identity.
Taught through a Native lens and grounded in shared spiritual values, this program helps participants remember who they are and where they come from. Across hundreds of tribes, there are powerful common threads: we believe in God, we pray, and we believe we’ll see our loved ones again. These truths form the foundation of this program, reminding participants that they are created with purpose—and that parenthood is one of the most sacred roles a person can hold.
This class is open to the whole community. It helps young men and women see their children not as a burden, but as a legacy. It reframes parenting as an act of dignity, strength, and sacred responsibility—something that deserves honor, protection, and support.
This work is also deeply connected to our wider community’s needs. In Yellowstone County, over 50% of violent crimes are related to domestic violence. If we want to address the root of that, we have to start with families. We have to start with hope.
Programs like Fatherhood is Sacred, Motherhood is Sacred do just that. They restore identity. They plant seeds of healing. They remind each parent that they matter—and so do their children.
We’re thrilled to share that our very first class, started in partnership with Adult and Teen Challenge Pacific Northwest Billings Campus, launched last Tuesday—and it was powerful. Fifteen people attended, and the room was filled with courage, connection, and hope. We are so excited about this beginning and can’t wait to launch the next class as soon as possible.
Your support makes this possible. Thank you for standing with us as we raise up the next generation, one sacred story at a time.
